Comfort is key! Wear clothes that you and your family feel yourselves in. Beyond that, I recommend to strive for coordinating, not matching. Utilize different colors, layers, textures. I find it easiest to choose one patterned outfit first (mom or one of the kiddos, usually), then try to pull colors from that outfit for everyone else. Don't be afraid to choose more than one print/patterned outfit, but don't go overboard, either. Avoid fluorescent tones and bright red/pink. Earthy and jewel tones photograph beautifully in every season. Pinterest is your friend!
Life (and weather) happens! I get it. I'm a mom, and I live in the craziness of Indiana weather. I do not charge a rescheduling fee, so if anything comes up before your session, just reach out and we'll find another date that works. For weather reschedules, I prefer to wait to make a final call until the day before, or even day of, the session, since forecasts can change quickly. Also, some of the prettiest sunsets I've had for sessions have come at the end of a rainy day! However, if Mother Nature really isn't going to cooperate, we will reschedule just like for sickness. No reschedule fee. The exception to this is sometimes mini sessions, as I do occasionally charge a non-refundable retainer, but I always allow that to be transferred to a future full session if something comes up that prevents you from making it to your mini session spot.
Not long at all! I have worked hard over the years to perfect my editing workflow, and I have it down to a science. My average gallery turnaround time is about 48 hours after your session. The longest I've ever taken to complete a gallery (aside from my cousin's wedding, since I'm not typically a wedding photographer lol) is one week, during a particularly busy fall season.
Nope! But you can. Your gallery has print purchasing options, but the photos are yours to do with as you please (except use for profit, then we have to talk copyright...). If you don't order directly though me, I recommend Mpix.com as a quality, affordable option.
Absolutely! Hopefully if you've made it this far into my website, you know now that I worked as a zookeeper for over a decade. Bring on all the animals! If you do bring your furry, feathered, or scaly family members, though, make sure to bring anything or anyone you may need to occupy them and keep them safe during the photos they aren't part of.
We loved loved loved having Heather take our maternity and newborn photos! We both feel awkward taking photos, but she made us comfortable and my husband greatly appreciated how quick and efficient she was. Cannot recommend her enough!!
We used Heather for family photos and for Christmas photos of our son last year. She is easy to work with and got great shots of our toddler. The turnaround on the final photos was so fast and they are amazing. Thanks Heather!
We used Heather Laurel Photography for my daughter’s senior pictures. Heather was so easy to work with. She really captured the personality of my daughter. We loved the pictures and it was so nice to be able to receive all of them. Great overall experience!
Heather has been my family's photographer for about two years and she has been amazing! We have three small kiddos and she somehow catches their expressions perfectly. We love all our family pictures and would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a family photographer ☺️
We have worked with Heather multiple times! She did our maternity, newborn and 6 month pictures. She is easy to work with and very kind! I love that our pictures seem natural, not over posed. She is great with kids and pets, too! I highly recommend!
Soooo happy we found Heather 2 years ago! She’s amazing at capturing candid moments and so talented at eliciting a smile from my threenager during the posed ones. She’s always been able to get so many amazing shots and I loooove the same or next day highlights she gets out. Idk how she does it but her quick turnaround is amazing. Thanks for being awesome, Heather!!!
Heather is patient and positive. She is easy to talk with and very responsive to my questions (even the crazy “which outfits looks best together” ones😆)! We highly recommend her! AND she knows lots if fun animal facts to make my kiddo super happy!!
Heather produced incredible pictures of my family and we were with her only 30 minutes. She was able to turn the coordination of working with a 2 and 5 year old to be part of the shoot. What she captured in those interactions were the best pics. Lovely. I will cherish these pics for many, many years to come.
Heather has done both mini sessions and full family sessions for us. We’ve never been disappointed! Even when the kids didn’t want to cooperate she manages to get touching shots!
