In January 2014, I joined a club that no one ever wants to become a part of, but gives you an instant and everlasting connection to every other member you meet throughout the rest of your life: the club of pregnancy and infant loss. Because I am a loss mama twice over, I was devastated in a very personal way when I learned that the sweet family I had done maternity photos for just a couple months prior, had lost their precious little girl at birth after praying she might overcome her significant health challenges discovered during pregnancy. As they began the life-long journey of grief and healing following the loss of sweet Scarlett, they were never far from my mind, so I was so happy when Stephanie reached out to me to schedule family photos, and told me she wanted to include Scarlett in them. We did this with one of the beautful photographs they had captured in the hospital by a wonderful group that provides that important service to grieving families. Scarlett’s presence was also felt through the tattoo on her Daddy’s arm.
The love between mom, dad, and big brother Aiden is so apparent and a joy to witness.
Aiden may not have his baby sister with him on Earth, but he is a great big brother, and reminds me so much of my sunshine baby, Aven, and how she navigated the unconventional role of big sister to heavenly siblings with resiliance, joy, and love. I can’t wait to keep up with this awesome family as they continue to travel along this journey.
